West Wales Marine Conservation is a collaboration between the Marine Conservation Society Pembrokeshire local group, South and West Wales Seasearch organisers and active supporters of the Skomer Marine Nature Reserve.
This web site provides a home for each of these, links to other marine conservation  initiatives and information on how to become involved in meaningful marine conservation action in south and west Wales.

Following the introduction of the 2009 Marine & Coastal Access Act, Skomer Marine Nature Reserve will be redesignated as a Marine Conservation Zone in 2010.  We believe it should become  a highly protected “no take” MCZ.

So too do -

Mark Carwardine - award-winning environmental writer,  columnist, photographer and broadcaster, and active supporter of  conservation of the marine environment and endangered species,

Iolo Williams, BBC Wales (Iolo's Special Reserves, the Natural History of Wales, Iolo's Welsh Safari, Not in my Nature) pictured signing the Skomer HMPR campaign petition,

Liz Bonnin, wild animal biologist and BBC TV presenter Bang Goes the Theory & Country Tracks.

Professor Callum Roberts, Professor of Marine Conservation at York University and author of “The Unnatural History of the Sea”.

A petition was presented to Jane Davidson, Welsh Minister for the Environment, on 24 November 2009, but if you want to add your name in support please do so here and we will submit an update when the Welsh Marine Conservation Zone selection process starts.  Very many thanks to everyone who has signed up so far.

YOUR SEAS - YOUR VOICE!

The Marine Conservation Society are collecting votes for new marine conservation zones through the Your Seas Your Voice website.  Please visit it and vote for Skomer! (oh ... and anywhere else you think is deserving of protection)
