Skomer Marine Nature Reserve is Wales’ only statutory MNR, one of only three in the UK.  Surrounding Pembrokeshire’s Skomer Island and the Marloes Peninsula in the southwest corner of Wales, it is managed on behalf of its wildlife and for the nation by the Countryside Council for Wales, the statutory nature conservation agency for Wales, and its small, dedicated, Reserve management team of diving marine biologists.
Little information about the Skomer MNR is available from the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) website.  This website exists partly as an effort to overcome that shortcoming, but also, very importantly, to advocate for the conservation protection the MNR deserves, and for the long-term security of staffing and resources to maintain the Reserve’s programme of marine biological monitoring and surveillance which is unparalleled in the UK.
